What is a brow lift?

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift:

  • Reduces the wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the forehead, as well as those that occur on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes
  • Improves frown lines, the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
  • Raises sagging brows that are hooding the upper eyelids
  • Places the eyebrows in an alert and youthful position

Other cosmetic procedures that may be performed with a brow lift include:

  • Upper and or lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
  • Facelifting
  • Skin resurfacing techniques

Who is a good candidate for a brow lift?

You may be a candidate for brow lift surgery if you:

  • Are physically healthy
  • Nonsmoker
  • Have a positive outlook and realistic goals

As we age, unsightly wrinkle lines may appear on the forehead. Frown lines between the brows can make us look angry or "too serious." Skin relaxation may cause the eyebrows to drop, hooding our upper eyelids and making us look tired. If you are bothered by these signs of aging in the brow region, a brow lift may be right for you.

Types of brow lift

  • Direct brow lift: Typically done for people with bushy eyebrows
  • Coronal brow lift: Involves making an incision across the top of the head from ear to ear
  • Hairline brow lift: Involves making an incision between the top of the forehead and the hairline
  • Endoscopic brow lift: Involves making small incisions within the hairline and using a thin tube with a camera on the end

What to Expect After Eyebrow Lift Surgery?

The patient will have sutures and dressing on the forehead for the first couple of days after surgery. The recovery time period differs from patient to patient. However, for a speedy and safe recovery process, the patient should apply ice pack to minimise swelling and take the necessary doctor-prescribed painkillers.

After the surgery, doctors may also ask the patient to avoid any strenuous activities for two weeks, such as heavy weights lifting, swimming, or jogging. Moreover, patients are advised not to shower or wash hair until the bandages are removed. The patient is also required to keep the head elevated with pillows for at least two days after the procedure.

After the stitches are removed, (in approximately one to two weeks), the patient can return to work or their usual routine.

Advantages of Brow Lift Surgery

Though the results of forehead lift surgery are unique to each patient, one can expect to get the following benefits:

  • Better positioned eyebrows to suit the face
  • Fewer wrinkles and lines around the forehead
  • Youthful look
  • Correction of droopy or uneven eyebrows
